Famous Birth Charts: Cast for Real, with the Misses Spelled Out

The internet is full of celebrity BaZi charts, and most share two problems: birth times with no known source, and readings that only mention what fits. Every page here starts by stating where the birth data comes from and how reliable it is, casts the chart with the same engine as our home page, and ends by explaining what the chart cannot account for. Each person also gets a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart and a Western natal chart.

Strength and favorable elements are our engine’s readings; where a birth time has two versions, we use the main chart of that page.

Of the 43 people, 15 have a weak Day Master, 19 are balanced and 9 are strong. The most accomplished people are not clustered on the strong side, and quite a few have a disputed birth hour, one that sits right on a boundary, or none on record at all. Those two facts are nearly everything this series has to say: BaZi describes structure and cost, not the size of an achievement; and the birth time itself is often less certain than we assume.

Zi Wei Dou Shu: the same people in another system

Every page also includes a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart cast from the same true solar time. Zi Wei looks at which stars fall in which palace, a different language from BaZi’s balance of elements, and it is far more sensitive to the birth time: change the hour and the Life Palace moves.

Of the 37 Zi Wei charts that can be cast, only 2 have Zi Wei, the “emperor star”, in the Life Palace (Albert Einstein and Bob Dylan), while 5 have an empty Life Palace with no major star (Michael Jordan, Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, Neil Armstrong and Elizabeth Taylor). The conclusion is the same as the BaZi table: a chart describes structure and tendency, not the size of an achievement. Jensen Huang, Qi Baishi, Anita Mui, Ruan Lingyu, C.K. Yang and Yu Kwang-chung have no reliable birth hour, so Zi Wei cannot be cast for them at all, while BaZi can still work from three pillars checked against all twelve hours. That alone shows how much more Zi Wei depends on the birth time.

Western astrology: the big three for the same people

Every page also includes a Western natal chart. A natal chart uses the sky at the moment of birth, so it needs no true-solar-time conversion, but it does need the birthplace’s latitude to fix the Ascendant and houses. People with no birth time still get a Sun sign and most planets.

The 43 Sun signs are spread across 12 signs, and the most common, Cancer, has only 6 people. Among the 37 people whose rising sign can be cast, the Ascendants are just as scattered. Like BaZi and Zi Wei, astrology describes tendencies; it cannot measure achievement. Jensen Huang, Qi Baishi, Anita Mui, Ruan Lingyu, C.K. Yang and Yu Kwang-chung have no birth time, so their Ascendant and houses cannot be cast, and for Jensen Huang, Qi Baishi and C.K. Yang the Moon changed sign on the day of birth, so even the Moon sign is uncertain.

Moving abroad: five ordinary charts that took off in another country

People often ask: some charts look unremarkable, yet the person moves to another country and takes off. If you move, should the chart be recast? We picked five people with a sourced birth time, a modest birth chart and a career that only took off abroad, and actually ran the popular online method of “recasting Zi Wei in the new country’s local time”:

4 of the five have Tian Fu in the Life Palace and an empty Wealth Palace at birth, which really does look modest. Recast in local time, 4 of them turn into Sha-Po-Lang, the most pioneering pattern in Zi Wei, which looks more like the lives they led. But Rudolph Valentino’s recast chart comes out with an empty Life Palace, and that counterexample makes the point: switching time zones just produces another chart. Calling it accurate when it fits and ignoring it when it does not is picking charts, not reading them. Our position is that the moment of birth does not change when you move; place and era multiply an achievement, and they are not in the chart. The recast results in the table are after-the-fact calculations for entertainment only.

How we choose people and how we calculate

1. Birth data must have a source: a birth certificate, the person or their family on the record, or an authorized biography. Times that rest only on a biography’s anecdote are marked with their reliability.
2. No birth hour means three pillars, checked first: for anyone without an hour pillar we cast all twelve two-hour periods, and only write conclusions that do not depend on the hour, saying so on the page.
3. True solar time: the birthplace’s longitude and the equation of time can pull clock time ten minutes to an hour away from solar time. For people born near the edge of a two-hour period, the hour pillar may change after conversion. Every page lists the result.
4. Our own engine: the Four Pillars, hidden stems and Ten Gods, strength score, favorable elements and luck pillars are all computed by code, the same code you use when you cast a chart on our home page. For people born in the Southern Hemisphere, we explain how the climate adjustment differs.
5. A Zi Wei Dou Shu chart: cast from the same true solar time with our Zi Wei engine (San He school) and presented separately from the BaZi reading so the two can be compared. People with no birth hour get no Zi Wei chart.
6. Only the public record: companies founded, career changes, public successes and failures and their dates. No predictions about health, lifespan or private relationships.
7. Always write the misses: every page has a section on where the chart does not match the person’s achievements, and why.

Why famous charts often “look wrong”

Many people feel let down the first time they look at a celebrity chart: the tycoon’s chart looks ordinary, the Day Master is weak, and Wealth is unfavorable. There are four main reasons:

So the most useful way to read a famous chart is not to test whether BaZi is “accurate”, but to see what a given structure looks like in a real life: how someone with heavy Wealth and a weak Day Master carries money, how someone with Seven Killings and Resource working together fights back when cornered. Those comparisons are very helpful when you turn back to your own chart.
