Why a yearly forecast only uses the slow planets
The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars move fast; when they touch a point in your chart, it is over in a few days, which says little about a whole year. Yearly transits use the five slow planets: they linger near a point for months and, when retrograde, cross it two or three times, so their influence lasts long enough to matter.

Then look at which natal point is being touched: the Sun brings the effect to direction, goals and confidence; the Moon to emotions, home and your sense of security; Venus to love, relationships, taste and money; the Midheaven to career, public role and life goals. So "transiting Saturn square natal Moon" can be read as a period of more pressure and responsibility around your emotions, home and sense of security.
How many transits does a year bring?

As you can see, everyone has several transits every year, and plenty of them are hard aspects; that is normal, and no reason to panic at the words "Saturn square". Read transits in this order: Saturn and the outer planets before Jupiter; contacts to the Sun, Moon, Ascendant and Midheaven before the other planets; and the aspect with the most exact dates in a year is usually that year's main theme.
Life milestones: the transits everyone meets at about the same age
Some transits are tied to age: each planet takes a fixed time to go round, so a whole generation meets them at about the same age. Our calculations:

Transiting Uranus reaches the point opposite your natal Uranus, at roughly 40 to 44, the stretch popularly called the midlife crisis: a sudden urge to change and to catch up on what you never did. Transiting Neptune squares your natal Neptune around age 40, often bringing a rethink of ideals and life's meaning, sometimes with a spell of confusion. The two often arrive within a few years of each other, which is why many astrologers treat the years around forty as a turning point.
The one exception is Pluto. Its orbit is so eccentric that it spends anywhere from a dozen to thirty years in a sign, so the age of the "Pluto square" varies widely by generation:

Active periods, exact dates and retrogrades
Each transit the calculator lists has an "active period": the days the transiting planet is within orb. The most exact day in that period is traditionally when the effect is clearest. When a planet goes retrograde it crosses the same point two or three times: Saturn, say, reaches the point, backs off, touches it again, then moves forward and crosses it a third time, stretching the whole thing to nearly a year. So a transit is more like a season than something that happens on a particular day.
A straight word: transits describe the themes of a period, not what is fated to happen
Transits overlay the planets in today's sky on the chart of the sky at your birth, giving you a language for the stages of life: when it suits you to start something, when things are harder, which years tend to bring turning points. The planets' positions and dates can be calculated precisely, but the same transit can play out completely differently for different people, and looking back at famous lives makes it easy to remember only the examples that fit. Transits FAQ
How are transits different from a yearly horoscope?
An ordinary yearly horoscope uses only the Sun sign, and everyone with that sign reads the same text. Transits compare the planets' real positions with your own natal chart, so people with the same Sun sign all have different transits.
Can I see my transits without a birth time?
Most of them. Transits to your natal Sun and Mercury through Saturn can all be calculated; what you lose is the Ascendant, Midheaven and houses, plus the Moon's exact position (it moves about 13° a day, so dates of transits to the Moon may be off).
Is a Saturn square transit a disaster?
No. Saturn's hard aspects bring pressure and tests; you may feel stuck or asked for more, but it is also a time for sorting out and laying foundations. In our statistics, 80.1% of people have at least one hard aspect from Saturn or an outer planet to the Sun or Moon in a given year; it is very ordinary.
At what age is the Saturn return?
The first Saturn return comes at about 29; in our sample it fell between 28.4 and 29.9. The second comes at about 58 or 59. See Saturn return.
Which is more accurate, astrological transits or BaZi annual luck?
The two systems measure time differently: BaZi works with stem-and-branch years (changing at Start of Spring) and ten-year luck pillars, while transits follow where the planets actually are and can pin a period down to particular days. You can compare the two; see BaZi annual luck.
