In BaZi, Indirect Wealth actually means money that moves and is not fixed: sales commission, bonuses, investment returns, side work, a job that turns up out of the blue. It has no built-in connection to winning anything. What it depends on is something else: whether you can handle money that swings between large and small.

How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, rotating the birth hour, 16,802 charts in all. This describes how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about how much money anyone has.
Most people have both kinds of Wealth, in different proportions. A little over one in five has only Indirect Wealth; their income tends to come from several places and is hard to sum up as "a salary."
Two conditions decide whether Indirect Wealth works for you
Indirect Wealth is money that moves: quick to come, quick to go. Whether it stays depends not on the Indirect Wealth itself but on:
- Whether you can carry it: a strong Day Master handles uneven money calmly; a weak one is easily dragged along by it.
- Whether Wealth is favorable: if it is, strong Indirect Wealth really does mean one more road to income; if it is unfavorable, the stronger it is, the more likely you are to be chasing money and to slip up on speculation.
A weak Gui Water with Indirect Wealth on the stem
Born December 3, 1975, Zi hour (11 p.m.–1 a.m.)
- Indirect Wealth: for a Gui Water Day Master, Wealth is Fire. The Ding Fire month stem shares Gui Water's yin polarity, so it is Indirect Wealth, and it shows on a stem; the Wei day branch hides another Ding Fire. All of this chart's Wealth is Indirect Wealth.
- The self: the Mao year branch, Hai month branch and Wei day branch form a three-harmony Wood frame, a heavy Output drain. Ren Water and Zi Water help, but overall the Day Master is still judged weak.
- Favorable elements: favorable MetalWater, unfavorable WoodFireEarth. Indirect Wealth (Fire) is unfavorable.
- How to read it: with Indirect Wealth on a stem, this person is alert to openings and often hears about ways to make money. But a weak Day Master with unfavorable Wealth is exactly the combination most likely to lose on speculation. Indirect Wealth in a chart like this is best used where there are rules and limits, such as freelance work that grows out of the main job, not short-term speculation.
Indirect Wealth is not winning the lottery
A lottery draw is purely random. BaZi cannot predict numbers, and no chart is "destined to win." People with strong Indirect Wealth are more alert to opportunity and more willing to act on it; that is a leaning of temperament, not a guarantee of luck. Treating Indirect Wealth luck as a reason to speculate is the most common misreading, and the most expensive.
A healthier way to use it: if you have strong Indirect Wealth and a Day Master that can carry it, you can build an extra income stream, such as sales work, freelancing or a side business. If you have strong Indirect Wealth but a weak Day Master, focus on managing risk: invest a fixed share, set stop-losses, and never borrow to invest.
Indirect Wealth years
When the annual stem is your Indirect Wealth, openings of that kind tend to multiply. For 2026 to 2035: Jia Day Masters meet a Wu year (2028), Yi meets Ji (2029), Bing meets Geng (2030), Ding meets Xin (2031), Wu meets Ren (2032), Ji meets Gui (2033), Geng meets Jia (2034), Xin meets Yi (2035), Ren meets Bing (2026), and Gui meets Ding (2027). Again, an opening is only an opening; whether you can take it comes back to the two conditions above.
