KnowYourBaZi is a free online BaZi chart and knowledge site. We want to take the hard-to-follow terms of traditional Chinese metaphysics and lay them out in plain language that you can look up and learn, so that anyone curious about their own chart can cast it themselves, understand it and put it to use.
What We Offer
- BaZi chart: enter your birth date and hour to instantly get your Four Pillars, Ten Gods and Five Elements distribution.
- Five Elements and Luck Pillar analysis: see how strong or weak each of your Five Elements is, what you are missing, and how each stage of your Luck Pillars and annual years is likely to go.
- BaZi knowledge articles: plain-language guides to topics such as the ten Day Masters, the Ten Gods and missing elements. One topic per article, easy to follow if you take your time.
- In-depth reading: if you want a fuller picture of yourself, you can turn your chart into a personalized reading with one click. It covers 12 areas of life, guidance for improving your luck, and your Luck Pillars and annual years. It is completely free and is also calculated in your browser.
Our Principles
- Privacy first: every chart calculation runs locally in your browser. Your birthday, name and other details are never uploaded and never stored by this site.
- Plain language first: less jargon, more everyday speech. When a term is hard to follow, we do our best to break it down.
- Continually updated: content is expanded and revised over time based on reader feedback.
- Open about our method: what time the day changes during the Zi hour, how Day Master strength is scored, how favorable elements are picked. It is all written up in our methodology, with weight tables and a worked example. You are welcome to check it against your own results.
About the Author
This site is built and maintained independently by a writer who goes by the pen name Haiyuan (海淵). Haiyuan is an amateur enthusiast of traditional culture, an engineer by profession, and also a novelist. This site happens to sit where those three roles meet: an engineer's hands wrote the chart tools, an enthusiast's eyes read through the BaZi classics, and a novelist's pen turns the awkward terminology into plain speech.
Haiyuan started this site because, whenever he looked into BaZi himself, pages full of jargon kept shutting him out. Rather than complain, he decided to put together a version that is easy to understand, easy to look up and easy to learn, and share it with others who are just as curious. If you have content suggestions or partnership proposals, or you spot any mistakes, please do write in.
