Tai Yin in the Life Palace: What the Star of Riches Says About You

Tai Yin is the moon star; the classics call it “rich”, governing property and the accumulation of wealth. People with Tai Yin in the Life Palace are delicate, reserved and sensitive, alert to beauty and atmosphere, and devoted to home. Their wealth is mostly built up bit by bit, and they are good at managing money and planning.

The Tai Yin personality

Tai Yin is the opposite of Tai Yang: it likes the night and bright positions. A bright Tai Yin is tender and organised, a fine carer and planner; a fallen Tai Yin is just as sensitive but prone to melancholy, with feelings pressed down inside. Tradition also says people born at night have a stronger Tai Yin.

• Money: Wealth that accumulates: good at saving and long-term planning, often keeping money in property or stable assets.

Bright and fallen: where Tai Yin is strongest

A bright Tai Yin is gentle and perceptive, good with money, a fine carer and planner. A fallen or weak Tai Yin is sensitive and tires easily, prone to wearing itself out emotionally. The table shows, for each of the twelve branches where Tai Yin can sit in the Life Palace, its brightness, the major stars sharing the palace, and the major stars of the opposite, Wealth and Career palaces. The star of blessings with the star of riches: gentle, attentive to feelings, artistic and well liked. The classics call the pair in Zi “clear water and cassia blossom”, both stars strong, a very fortunate arrangement; in Wu neither star is strong, emotions tend to be held in, and love has more ups and downs. Tai Yang with Tai Yin (Chou or Wei)

Chou: Tai Yin exalted, Tai Yang weak; Wei: Tai Yin weak, Tai Yang favorable. Opposite: empty; Wealth: empty; Career: Tian Liang. About 17.8% of people with Tai Yin in the Life Palace fall into this group.

Sun and moon together in Chou or Wei: yin and yang side by side, with both outgoing and inward sides to the character, bigger emotional swings, and frequent movement between ideal and reality. In Chou, Tai Yin is exalted and Tai Yang weak, so it leans inward; in Wei, Tai Yang is favorable and Tai Yin weak, so it leans outward. Tian Ji with Tai Yin (Yin or Shen)

The star of wisdom with the star of riches: sensitive, perceptive and romantic, good at planning and at money, a classic Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang type suited to stable organisations and professional work. This pair sits in Yin and Shen and brings plenty of change, with frequent moves and job changes; Tian Ji is only favorable in Yin and Shen, while Tai Yin is strong in Yin and fair in Shen, so Yin is the stronger of the two. Tai Yin alone in Mao or You, with Tian Tong opposite. In You, Tai Yin is strong: perceptive, gentle and artistically gifted; in Mao, Tai Yin is fallen, more sensitive and easily tired. Tian Tong opposite adds an easy-going, pleasure-loving side, and overall it leans toward a settled way of life.

In Hai the classics speak of “the bright moon at heaven’s gate”, Tai Yin exalted: perceptive, talented and good with money; in Si, Tai Yin is fallen, carrying a heavy heart and prone to melancholy. In both, Tian Ji is borrowed from opposite, bringing change and a busy mind.

Birth-year transformations in the Life Palace

• Tai Yin with Hua Lu (born in a Ding year): Tai Yin with Hua Lu brings good money and goodwill, skilled at managing finances and running things, suited to property and finance. In our sample, about 9.4% of people with Tai Yin in the Life Palace have the birth-year Hua Lu there.
• Tai Yin with Hua Quan (born in a Wu year): Tai Yin with Hua Quan adds authority to sensitivity, suited to managing money or leading a team, and with firm views on the home. In our sample, about 10.4% of people with Tai Yin in the Life Palace have the birth-year Hua Quan there.
• Tai Yin with Hua Ke (born in a Geng or Gui year): Tai Yin with Hua Ke has grace and talent, and easily earns a name through expertise or an eye for beauty. In our sample, about 22.9% of people with Tai Yin in the Life Palace have the birth-year Hua Ke there.
• Tai Yin with Hua Ji (born in a Yi year): Tai Yin with Hua Ji is more emotionally sensitive and especially concerned about family, older women or money, prone to wearing itself out. Women: The classics say a woman with Tai Yin is “gentle, virtuous and destined for wealth”. A modern reading: she is perceptive and organised, values both family and herself, and suits finance, design and education; in love she needs to be understood and cherished.

The classics were written in a traditional society, and their comments on men’s and women’s charts often carry the gender expectations of their time. We give the classical sayings alongside a modern reading, but we read charts for tendencies of character and never rank people by gender.

How we counted: this site’s engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005 (birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample), 16,802 charts in all. These figures describe how chart structures are distributed; they say nothing about whether anyone’s destiny is good or bad.
