The Property Palace in Zi Wei Dou Shu: The Kind of Home You Want
In the old texts the Property Palace governed "fields and houses": land, buildings and the family estate. The modern reading is a little broader: what kind of home you want, how you live, and whether you hold on to what you have. Tradition also treats the Property Palace as the wealth vault: the Wealth Palace shows how money is earned, the Property Palace whether it stays.
How to read the Property Palace
- Start with the major star. The star here describes your home style and your attitude to property: Tian Fu and Tai Yin keep and build up, Qi Sha and Po Jun tend to build anew on their own, Tian Ji moves often. Each of the fourteen is covered below.
- Compare with the Wealth Palace. The Wealth Palace shows earning, the Property Palace keeping. Only by reading them together can you tell whether money flows straight out again or stays.
- Look at the Children–Property axis. Opposite the Property Palace is the Children Palace, so home and family, especially the younger generation, pull on each other. The trine is the Siblings Palace and the Health Palace; we make no health readings from the Health Palace.
- Look at transformations and malefic stars. Hua Lu or Lu Cun here means a settled home and an easier time building things up; Hua Ji means you care a great deal about home or housing; malefic stars usually mean moves or household worries.
Fixed links to the Life, Wealth and Children Palaces
The Life Palace is always three palaces backward from the Property Palace and the Wealth Palace always five palaces forward, and the fourteen major stars keep fixed positions relative to each other. So for 8 of the stars the Life Palace star is settled once you know the Property Palace star, and for 7 of them the Wealth Palace star is settled. Tian Fu and Qi Sha, and Tian Xiang and Po Jun, always sit opposite each other, so with any of these four in the Property Palace, the Children Palace is fixed as well.

For example, with Tai Yin (the traditional ruler of property) in the Property Palace, the Life Palace always holds Po Jun and the Wealth Palace always holds Qi Sha: bold out in the world and earning through hard work, yet home is where you most need stability and where you are best at building things up.
