Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang: Four Steady Stars Together
If Sha-Po-Lang stands for motion, Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang stands for steadiness. Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang are mild stars that like to plan. When all four appear around the Life Palace, the classics say “Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang makes officials”: people who do well inside an organisation, as advisers, planners or administrators.
Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang
Conditions: Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong and Tian Liang all in the Life Palace’s trines and opposite.
What strengthens or breaks it: Wen Chang or Wen Qu in the trines is treated by one widely copied compilation as essential; more helpers are better. The Complete Book calls it a lower grade with Sha stars, Kong and Jie, or Hua Ji.

All four are “think first” stars: Tian Ji is the brain, Tai Yin care and accumulation, Tian Tong good nature, Tian Liang protection and principle. People with all four are usually good at planning and making processes run smoothly, and would rather keep the system working from behind than charge at the front. The old “official” was the clerk who actually got things done; today that means the civil service, planning, administration, finance or research.
The Complete Book counts only a Life Palace at Yin or Shen (Tong-Liang or Ji-Yin there, or an empty palace opposite Ju Men and Tai Yang); a widely copied compilation treats Yin-Shen as the main form but accepts other palaces; others accept all 18 layouts. We accept all 18 and mark Yin-Shen as the Complete Book’s form. Four layouts listed by iztro, with an empty Life Palace borrowing Tong-Liang or Ji-Yin from opposite, do not actually gather all four stars, so we leave them out.
In our sample about 12.9% of charts meet Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang.

18 layouts, and why Si and Hai never qualify
Grouping every chart by Life Palace branch and major stars, Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang appears in exactly 18 layouts: nine combinations, each with its mirror. From Si or Hai the four stars never gather, whatever the Life Palace holds. The eight Yin-Shen layouts, the Complete Book’s form, cover about 4.2% of charts.
Myth: Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang can only be a civil servant.
The old “official” means someone who works inside a system. Planning, administration, finance, research, engineering management and middle management in large companies all suit it.
Myth: Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang lacks drive.
It is a steady structure, not an unambitious one; with Hua Lu, Hua Quan or Lu Cun it often climbs steadily on expertise.
