Qi Sha Facing the Dipper and Heroic Star at Court
Qi Sha, Lian Zhen and Po Jun all carry a general’s air in the classics. In certain palaces each has a pattern name: Qi Sha Facing the Dipper, Heroic Star at Court and Hero Star in Its Temple. All three mean drive and responsibility; they differ in how they charge.
Qi Sha Facing the Dipper
Conditions: Qi Sha alone in the Life Palace at Zi, Wu, Yin or Shen.
What strengthens or breaks it: Lu Cun, Lu/Quan/Ke, Zuo and You, Chang and Qu, Kui and Yue lift it; one compilation says helpers and Sha together mean big ups and downs, and Sha without helpers is poor.

Qi Sha is the general star; alone in these four palaces it always faces Tian Fu: at Yin and Shen the opposite is Zi Wei with Tian Fu, a real audience with the emperor; at Zi and Wu it is Wu Qu with Tian Fu. It reads as strategic and responsible, drive held in check by discipline: a planned charge.
The Complete Book, one compilation and iztro accept all four; some schools accept Yin and Shen only. Naming also varies: the compilation calls Shen and Wu “facing” and Yin and Zi “looking up”, and some reverse it. We accept all four, show Shen and Wu as facing (about 1.8%) and Yin and Zi as looking up (about 1.1%), and note for Zi and Wu that some schools accept Yin and Shen only.

Heroic Star at Court
Conditions: Lian Zhen in the Life Palace at Shen (all versions), Yin (modern reading) or Wei with Qi Sha (the Complete Book).
What strengthens or breaks it: With Sha in the trines it drops to ordinary.

Lian Zhen is both the “prisoner star” and a minor romance star: strong drive, competitive, socially skilled. The pattern reads as someone who stands out early, with strong follow-through.
This is where common belief and the classic clash most: the Complete Book says “Lian Zhen at Shen or Wei” (alone at Shen opposite Tan Lang, or with Qi Sha at Wei), while most modern Taiwanese sites say Lian Zhen at Yin or Shen. One compilation writes “Wei and Shen” and says “even with Qi Sha it is not bad”. We accept all three: Shen for every version, Yin marked as the modern reading, Wei (with Qi Sha) marked as the Complete Book’s text.

Hero Star in Its Temple
Conditions: Po Jun alone in the Life Palace at Zi or Wu.
What strengthens or breaks it: The Complete Book favors Jia and Gui years, then Ding and Ji (the Wikisource text reads “Ding Si”, a slip for Ding and Ji); Bing and Wu years struggle (the text reads “Bing Xu”, a slip for Bing and Wu). Sha lowers it.

Po Jun is strongest at Zi and Wu, opposite Lian Zhen and Tian Xiang. Bold, risk-taking and impatient, suited to venturing out and opening new ground.
The palaces are agreed; one source treats Wu, a Jia year (Lian Zhen Hua Lu, Po Jun Hua Quan) and no Sha as the full form.

The classics say “facing or looking up, rank and salary flourish”. The real difference lies in the helpers and Sha stars around it.
