Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace: How You Earn, and Where the Money Goes

Wu Qu is the star of earned wealth, and in the Wealth Palace it is a wealth star in its own home, a placement classical texts regard as ideal. You are sensitive to money, good with numbers and able to save. You earn through ability and follow-through; this is textbook money earned by skill.

Your attitude to money

Wu Qu’s money is solid but hard-won: it doesn’t fall from the sky, it is made one coin at a time. The challenge is caring too much about money, which can lead to clashes with people over it and to keeping relationships too strictly accounted.

• How you earn: You suit finance, accounting, engineering, sales, industry and any work paid by results.
• How you spend: You value savings and tangible assets and dislike spending where you can’t see a return.
• Financial risk: When hardness is piled on hardness, you may bet everything on one move; with Di Kong or Di Jie, money comes and goes.

Life, Wealth and Career: money is tied to who you are and what you do

With Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace, the Life Palace always holds Zi Wei and the Career Palace always holds Lian Zhen; Zi Wei, Lian Zhen and Wu Qu always form a triad. You yourself like to lead and think big, your work calls for tact and principle, and Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace turns all of that into real money.

This is built into the chart: counting four palaces forward from Wu Qu always lands on Zi Wei, and the Life Palace always sits four palaces forward from the Wealth Palace, so the Life Palace always holds Zi Wei (sometimes together with Tian Xiang, Qi Sha, Po Jun, Tian Fu and Tan Lang); counting four palaces backward from Wu Qu always lands on Lian Zhen, and the Career Palace always sits four palaces backward from the Wealth Palace, so the Career Palace always holds Lian Zhen (sometimes together with Po Jun, Tian Fu, Tan Lang, Tian Xiang and Qi Sha). Bright and fallen positions

When bright, your income is steady and your money management strong; this is one of the best placements for holding on to wealth. In a neutral position, your finances swing more, your temper is quick, and money can spark conflict. The Wealth Palace's four-way set is the Mind Palace (opposite), the Life Palace and the Career Palace. Where your money comes from can't be separated from your personality and the way you work; how you spend it is tied to the Mind Palace, which stands for your state of mind and what you enjoy. The table shows the major stars of these palaces for each of the twelve branches Wu Qu can occupy in the Wealth Palace.

"Empty palace" means the palace has none of the fourteen major stars; in that case you read it through the stars of the opposite palace.

Wu Qu with Tian Fu (Zi or Wu)

Zi: Wu Qu strong, Tian Fu exalted; Wu: Wu Qu strong, Tian Fu strong. Opposite (Mind): Qi Sha; Life: Zi Wei and Tian Xiang; Career: Lian Zhen. About 16.2% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace fall into this group.

Wu Qu with Tan Lang (Chou or Wei)

Chou: Wu Qu exalted, Tan Lang exalted; Wei: Wu Qu exalted, Tan Lang exalted. Opposite (Mind): empty palace; Life: Zi Wei and Qi Sha; Career: Lian Zhen and Po Jun. About 15.5% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace fall into this group.

Ambitious and sensitive to money, you suit business and sales. Classical texts say Wu Qu with Tan Lang doesn’t flourish in youth, so your finances usually take off after middle age; with Huo Xing or Ling Xing there are signs of sudden windfalls, and you should guard against sudden falls too. Wu Qu with Tian Xiang (Yin or Shen)

Yin: Wu Qu favorable, Tian Xiang exalted; Shen: Wu Qu favorable, Tian Xiang exalted. Opposite (Mind): Po Jun; Life: Zi Wei; Career: Lian Zhen and Tian Fu. About 14.4% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace fall into this group.

Wu Qu with Qi Sha (Mao or You)

Mao: Wu Qu fair, Qi Sha strong; You: Wu Qu fair, Qi Sha strong. Opposite (Mind): Tian Fu; Life: Zi Wei and Po Jun; Career: Lian Zhen and Tan Lang. About 18.8% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace fall into this group.

Wu Qu alone, facing Tan Lang (Chen or Xu)

The wealth star is bright: you earn well and count well; opposite, Tan Lang in the Mind Palace means your appetite for enjoyment is strong too. Classical texts say Wu Qu and Tan Lang in the four tomb palaces are poor first and rich later, so your finances settle after middle age.

Wu Qu with Po Jun (Si or Hai)

Si: Wu Qu neutral, Po Jun neutral; Hai: Wu Qu neutral, Po Jun neutral. Opposite (Mind): Tian Xiang; Life: Zi Wei and Tan Lang; Career: Lian Zhen and Qi Sha. About 17.5% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace fall into this group.

Birth-year transformations in the Wealth Palace

• Wu Qu with Hua Lu (born in a Ji year): For people born in a Ji year, Wu Qu with Hua Lu in the Wealth Palace gives the wealth star extra flow; both earning power and financial luck are strong. In our sample, about 8.8% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace carry the birth-year Hua Lu.
• Wu Qu with Hua Quan (born in a Geng year): For people born in a Geng year, Wu Qu with Hua Quan in the Wealth Palace gives strong control over money and resources. Keeping your money accounts straight is a strength, but don’t keep your friendships on a ledger.

About 42.6% of charts with Wu Qu in the Wealth Palace also have at least one of the six Sha stars in that palace, about the same as the 42.3% across all charts. Malefic stars in the Wealth Palace usually show up as uneven income or impulsive spending and call for a bit more discipline; they do not mean you are bound to lose money.
