Tian Ji’s money is money in motion. Classical texts say Tian Ji in the Wealth Palace means money comes and goes, in other words both income and spending keep changing. The upside is flexibility; the downside is that sticking with one money strategy for the long haul doesn’t come easily.

• How you earn: You suit planning, consulting, technical, IT and research work where you are paid for expertise and ideas. Side jobs and several lines of business also suit you.
• How you spend: You calculate, compare prices and research your tools, but new methods easily catch your eye, so you switch strategies often.
• Financial risk: Overthinking and changing too fast: moving on to the next investment approach before the last one has been tested.

Life, Wealth and Career: money is tied to who you are and what you do

With Tian Ji in the Wealth Palace, the Career Palace always holds Tian Tong: your work pace is gentle and you value a comfortable environment, while the money is earned by Tian Ji’s brain. The major star in the Life Palace depends on the branch; it may be Tai Yin, Ju Men or Tian Liang, or the Life Palace may be empty.

This is built into the chart: counting four palaces backward from Tian Ji always lands on Tian Tong, and the Career Palace always sits four palaces backward from the Wealth Palace, so the Career Palace always holds Tian Tong (sometimes together with Tian Liang, Tai Yin and Ju Men). "Empty palace" means the palace has none of the fourteen major stars; in that case you read it through the stars of the opposite palace.
