The Direct Wealth Structure in BaZi: Wealth needs a source and an outlet; Peers splitting it is the worry
Direct Wealth is the Ten God the Day Master controls, with the opposite polarity. With a Direct Wealth Structure, the point is whether helping gods on the stems support it, and whether anything there breaks it.
What is the Direct Wealth Structure?
Direct Wealth is the Ten God the Day Master controls, with the opposite polarity. It stands for steady income, practical management and a firm grip on resources. A Direct Wealth Structure is built around getting things done and bringing money in. It is a benevolent star, used by supporting it: give Wealth a source (Output producing Wealth), give it an outlet (Wealth producing the Officer), and keep the Peers from coming to split it.
How it is taken: when the Direct Wealth hidden in the month branch shows on the year, month or hour stem, or when none of the hidden stems shows and the Main Qi is the Direct Wealth, the chart is a Direct Wealth Structure. It is a structure used by supporting it (shun yong, 順用).
How we counted: using this site's structure rules, our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all. This describes how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about how far anyone will go.

The Direct Wealth Structure with a strong or weak Day Master
- Strong: A strong Day Master can hold its Wealth, and a Direct Wealth Structure most readily turns into real income and assets.
- Weak: With a weak Day Master, the Wealth is heavier than the self can carry, what the classics call "much Wealth, weak body." Resource and Peers should shore up the self first; the Wealth cluster goes into this in depth.

Geng Metal with Wealth producing the Officer
Born July 23, 1975, Xu hour (7–9 p.m.)
- Taking the structure: Wei month hides Ji, Ding and Yi. Ji Earth and Ding Fire do not show; the Residual Qi Yi Wood sits on the year stem. To Geng Metal, Yi is Direct Wealth, so this is a Direct Wealth Structure.
- Making factors: Bing Fire on the hour stem is Seven Killings, so Wealth produces the Officer; Gui Water on the month stem is Hurting Officer, so Output produces Wealth.
- Breaking factors: no Peers on the stems, so the Wealth is not split.
- Strength: Geng Metal is weak and favors Earth, Metal and Water. The structure holds, yet Wealth is still a burden to this Day Master, who needs Resource and Peers for support.

The classics often equate a structure that "holds" with wealth and rank, and a "broken" one with poverty and low standing. A reading closer to today is this: the structure tells you what a chart is built around, what holds it up, and where it is most easily thrown off. A structure that holds does not promise an easy life, and a broken one is not failure. Plenty of broken charts grow their real strengths in the work of mending the break.
