The Seven Killings Structure in BaZi: Holds when checked; unchecked, the pressure runs wild
Seven Killings is the Ten God that controls the Day Master with the same polarity. With a Seven Killings Structure, the point is whether helping gods on the stems support it, and whether anything there breaks it.
What is the Seven Killings Structure?
Seven Killings is the Ten God that controls the Day Master with the same polarity. It stands for pressure, challenge, nerve and authority. It is one of the four "harsh stars," to be used by restraining it: rather than letting it strike the Day Master head-on, the Eating God holds it down or Resource converts it. A Seven Killings Structure that is well checked often belongs to someone who takes on hard things and decides well under pressure; unchecked, that pressure lands squarely on the self.
How it is taken: when the Seven Killings hidden in the month branch shows on the year, month or hour stem, or when none of the hidden stems shows and the Main Qi is the Seven Killings, the chart is a Seven Killings Structure. It is a structure used by restraining it (ni yong, 逆用).
How we counted: using this site's structure rules, our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all. This describes how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about how far anyone will go.

The Seven Killings Structure with a strong or weak Day Master
- Strong: A strong Day Master can stand up to the Killings. The Eating God controlling them suits it best, putting that nerve to work breaking new ground.
- Weak: A weak Day Master fears the Killings striking it. Resource converting them suits it best: first steady footing, then progress.

Ren Water with the Killings transformed by Resource
Born February 25, 1975, Hai hour (9–11 p.m.)
- Taking the structure: Yin month hides Jia, Bing and Wu. Jia and Bing do not show; the Residual Qi Wu Earth sits on the month stem. To Ren Water, Wu is Seven Killings, so this is a Seven Killings Structure.
- Making factors: Xin Metal on the hour stem is Direct Resource. The Killings produce Resource and Resource supports the Day Master: Killings transformed by Resource.
- Breaking factors: no Wealth and no Direct Officer on the stems, so the Killings are neither fed by Wealth nor mixed.
- Strength: Ren Water is weak and favors Metal and Water. The Xin Metal Direct Resource both converts the Killings and is a favorable element.

The classics often equate a structure that "holds" with wealth and rank, and a "broken" one with poverty and low standing. A reading closer to today is this: the structure tells you what a chart is built around, what holds it up, and where it is most easily thrown off. A structure that holds does not promise an easy life, and a broken one is not failure. Plenty of broken charts grow their real strengths in the work of mending the break. It needs Resource most, to turn pressure into experience and backing. Luck periods that bring Resource and Peers are usually the smoother stretches for a weak Day Master with this structure.
