Venus in the 12 Houses: What Each Placement Means
Venus is what you like and what attracts you, and how you show affection and spend money. It never gets more than about 47° from the Sun, so it always sits within two signs of your Sun sign. The house Venus falls in shows which area of life this energy mostly goes into. The table below compares all twelve placements, and each one has its own detailed page.

“Taipei share” is the percentage of 8,401 charts of people born in Taipei between 1960 and 2005, with random birth times, that have Venus in that house (Placidus). The most common is the 12th house (9%) and the least common the 7th house (7.8%); the difference comes from house sizes changing with latitude and season.
Venus is usually in the same house as the Sun, or next door
Venus never gets far from the Sun in the sky (Mercury at most about 28°, Venus about 47°), so its house is tied to the Sun’s. In our calculation for people born in Taipei, Venus is in the same house as the Sun about 24.1% of the time and within one house about 81.4% of the time, and within two houses about 100%. When you read Venus’s house, check where your Sun is too; the two are often talking about the same part of life.
Where Venus feels most at home
Traditionally every planet has “natural houses”: the houses that match the zodiac order of the signs it rules. For Venus that is the 2nd house and 7th house. Classical astrology also speaks of a planet’s “joy”: Venus is most at ease in the 5th house. In these houses the planet’s themes and the house’s themes point the same way, so it expresses itself more easily. Other houses are not worse; Venus’s nature just has to be translated into the language of that area of life.
Angular, succedent and cadent houses
The twelve houses fall into three groups. Angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) are the most outwardly visible, and planets there are easily noticed; succedent houses (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) build up and consolidate; cadent houses (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th) lean toward adjusting, learning and working behind the scenes. If your Venus is in an angular house, its qualities are often the first thing others notice about you.
Things to keep in mind
You need an accurate birth time to calculate houses. In our calculations, a birth time one hour later moves Venus to another house about 49.9% of the time; with whole sign houses, Venus lands in a different house about 51.2% of the time. If Venus is near a house cusp, read both houses.

A straight word: houses need an accurate birth time
Which sign a planet is in can mostly be worked out from your birthday alone; which house it is in depends on a birth time accurate to within minutes and the right birthplace. In our own calculations, a one-hour difference in birth time moves at least one planet into another house in more than 90% of charts. So before reading this page, check where your birth time comes from (a birth certificate is more reliable than family memory), and if a planet sits near a house cusp, read both houses. Venus in the houses FAQ
Which house is best for Venus?
No house is best. The natural houses (2nd house and 7th house) let Venus work more smoothly, but in any other house Venus simply puts its energy into a different area of life. What matters is how well you use that house’s themes, and Venus’s sign and aspects.
How do I find out which house my Venus is in?
Cast a birth chart with your birth date, time and place; you can use our birth chart calculator. The more accurate the birth time, the better: in our calculations, a one-hour difference moves Venus to another house about 49.9% of the time.
Placidus and whole sign houses put my Venus in different houses. Which should I use?
Both are legitimate. Placidus is the most widely used system today, and whole sign houses are the classical method; in our calculations the two give a different house for Venus about 51.2% of the time. Read both and see which fits your life better; our chart calculator can switch between them.
