Pluto Aspects: 40 Combinations with the Other Nine Planets

Pluto stands for power, obsession and thorough transformation. Its orbit is very eccentric, so it spends anywhere from a dozen to thirty years in a sign. When Pluto forms an aspect with another planet, the two forces have to be read together. Below, a table first lists Pluto’s aspects to the other nine planets with how often each occurs, followed by a one-line reading for every combination; each has its own detailed page.

Percentages are the share of 8,401 charts of people born in Taipei between 1960 and 2005 with random birth times that have the aspect, using this site’s orbs. A dash marks an aspect no one has been born under since 1930.

Pluto’s aspects to the slow planets are shared by a whole group

Pluto moves slowly, spending many years in each sign. Its aspects to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are in the charts of everyone born around the same time, and describe the common backdrop of that period. Pluto’s aspects to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are the ones that differ from person to person, and they come first when reading an individual chart. The table shows the years since 1930 in which Pluto formed each aspect with the other slow planets:

When Pluto is unaspected

Now and then Pluto forms no major aspect with any of the other nine planets; it is then called unaspected. In our calculations, Pluto is unaspected in about 0.8% of charts. Tradition holds that an unaspected planet works more on its own: what it stands for may come and go, or only become obvious at a certain stage of life.

A straight word: read an aspect as part of the whole chart

A single aspect describes the relationship between two planets. A chart has well over a dozen aspects on average, and they reinforce and offset one another. The same aspect in different signs and houses, with a tight orb or a loose one, can look very different in real life. Planetary positions are astronomical facts and can be calculated precisely; what an aspect means is astrological tradition, not scientific law. Pluto aspects FAQ

Which Pluto aspect is the best?

None of them is best. Trines and sextiles come easily; squares and oppositions bring pressure and also drive; a conjunction depends on which planet Pluto is joined to. Start with the aspect that has the smallest orb, since that is Pluto’s most noticeable interaction in your chart.

How do I find out which aspects my Pluto has?

Cast a birth chart with your birth date, time and place. Our birth chart calculator lists the aspects from the tightest orb to the widest. Pluto’s aspects can mostly be worked out from the birthday alone.

What does it mean if Pluto has no aspects?

It means Pluto forms none of the five major aspects with the other nine planets, which happens in about 0.8% of charts in our calculations. The traditional reading is that the planet works more on its own: what it stands for is less tied in with the rest of the chart, standing out strongly at some times and seeming disconnected at others.
