Jupiter Aspects: 45 Combinations with the Other Nine Planets
Jupiter shows where luck comes easily and where you tend to overdo it. It changes sign about once a year, so people born in the same year usually share a Jupiter sign. When Jupiter forms an aspect with another planet, the two forces have to be read together. Below, a table first lists Jupiter’s aspects to the other nine planets with how often each occurs, followed by a one-line reading for every combination; each has its own detailed page.

Jupiter’s aspects to the slow planets are shared by a whole group
Jupiter moves slowly, spending about a year in each sign. Its aspects to Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are in the charts of everyone born around the same time, and describe the common backdrop of that period. Jupiter’s aspects to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars are the ones that differ from person to person, and they come first when reading an individual chart. The table shows the years since 1930 in which Jupiter formed each aspect with the other slow planets:

When Jupiter is unaspected
Now and then Jupiter forms no major aspect with any of the other nine planets; it is then called unaspected. In our calculations, Jupiter is unaspected in about 4% of charts. Tradition holds that an unaspected planet works more on its own: what it stands for may come and go, or only become obvious at a certain stage of life.
Jupiter’s aspects to each planet, in one line
Jupiter and the Sun
- Sun Conjunct Jupiter: With the Sun and Jupiter joined, your sense of self is magnified. You are naturally optimistic, generous in spirit, and willing to think big, and you tend to overestimate the situation and promise more than you can deliver.
- Sun Sextile Jupiter: With the Sun and Jupiter two signs apart, confidence and vision back each other up. You are optimistic without being showy, and when you make the effort to learn and to meet people, opportunities appear one after another.
- Sun Square Jupiter: With the Sun and Jupiter competing, you have large ambitions and refuse to settle for a small stage. You often overdo it or promise too much, yet that dissatisfaction keeps stretching you to a larger size.
- Sun Trine Jupiter: With the Sun and Jupiter in signs of the same element, confidence and good fortune echo each other. You are cheerful and generous, much goes well without forcing it, and so you may put in less effort than you could.
- Sun Opposite Jupiter: With the Sun and Jupiter facing each other, the self stands on one side and larger expectations on the other. You are easily carried along by praise or promises, and the task is to balance inflation against reality.
Jupiter and the Moon
- Moon Conjunct Jupiter: With the Moon and Jupiter together, your emotions are generous and optimistic. You are openhanded with people and easily content, and with a heart this wide you often do not know where to stop.
- Moon Sextile Jupiter: With the Moon and Jupiter two signs apart, emotion and confidence get along. The more you reach outward to learn and mix with people, the wider your heart grows.
- Moon Square Jupiter: With the Moon and Jupiter at cross purposes, emotions get magnified, and hopes and promises often run past reality. Once you learn a sense of proportion, that enthusiasm becomes a real skill.
- Moon Trine Jupiter: With the Moon and Jupiter in signs of the same element, your emotions are naturally sunny and generous. You are easily content and often helped, and because life goes smoothly you can lack a little fight.
- Moon Opposite Jupiter: With the Moon and Jupiter facing each other across the chart, the comfort you want to protect and the urge to expand stand at two ends. You often see yourself in other people’s generosity or exaggeration.
Jupiter and Mercury
- Mercury Conjunct Jupiter: With Mercury conjunct Jupiter, your thinking automatically stretches toward the big and the distant. You are optimistic, talkative, and hungry to learn, and you tend to say more than you can deliver.
- Mercury Sextile Jupiter: With Mercury sextile Jupiter, two signs apart, your everyday thinking and your long view answer each other. Be willing to learn and to ask, and your horizons open up step by step.
- Mercury Square Jupiter: With Mercury square Jupiter, your mind keeps throwing off new ideas and grand theories while the details lag behind. Once you learn to rein it in, this is a rare big-picture mind.
- Mercury Trine Jupiter: With Mercury trine Jupiter, in signs of the same element, comprehension and insight connect naturally. You learn with ease and speak with warmth, and because it is so easy, you seldom put in the hard work.
- Mercury Opposite Jupiter: With Mercury opposite Jupiter, across the zodiac, the end that insists on facts and the end that speaks of beliefs pull against each other. You often learn the balance through clashes of viewpoint with others.
Jupiter and Venus
- Venus Conjunct Jupiter: With Venus and Jupiter traveling together, you are generous with people and enthusiastic about life. Goodwill and good chances find you easily, and you often give too much or ask for too much without noticing.
- Venus Sextile Jupiter: With Venus and Jupiter two signs apart, you are pleasant with people and glad to share. As long as you are willing to get out and meet others, good connections and opportunities follow.
- Venus Square Jupiter: With Venus and Jupiter at cross purposes, your hopes for love and pleasure run high, and you easily overgive and overspend. Once you learn to tell when enough is enough, generosity becomes a blessing.
- Venus Trine Jupiter: With Venus and Jupiter in signs of the same element, you are kind to people and sunny in outlook. Good things drift toward you naturally, so it seldom occurs to you to try a little harder.
- Venus Opposite Jupiter: With Venus and Jupiter facing each other across the zodiac, your hopes for love are large, and you often see generosity or excess in a partner. The lesson is balance between giving and wanting.
Jupiter and Mars
- Mars Conjunct Jupiter: With Mars and Jupiter side by side, confidence inflates your drive. You charge in, try things, and gladly take on responsibility, and you also tend to say yes to too much in one breath.
- Mars Sextile Jupiter: With Mars and Jupiter two signs apart, action and confidence help each other out. As long as you go looking for a stage on your own, your energy is spent very efficiently.
- Mars Square Jupiter: With Mars and Jupiter at odds, you always want to do more than you can. You overshoot and overstate easily, and once life has sanded you down you become a person of real nerve.
- Mars Trine Jupiter: With Mars and Jupiter in signs of the same element, the way you exert yourself and the source of your confidence are naturally in step. You get results with ease, and can end up short on fight.
- Mars Opposite Jupiter: With Mars and Jupiter facing each other, one end wants to act right now and the other wants to see the bigger picture. You often run into your own excess or your own restraint in other people.
Jupiter and Saturn
- Jupiter Conjunct Saturn: Jupiter and Saturn meet only about once every twenty years. People born around that year are used to placing their ideals inside a realistic framework and building them up one step at a time.
- Jupiter Sextile Saturn: Jupiter and Saturn sit at a compatible angle, so optimism and practicality do not get in each other’s way. People born in this period who are willing to plan can usually catch a chance when it comes and hold on to it.
- Jupiter Square Saturn: Jupiter and Saturn hold each other back, the urge to expand pressing against the limits of reality. People born in this period often struggle between charging ahead and holding the line, and it sharpens their judgment.
- Jupiter Trine Saturn: Jupiter and Saturn answer each other in the same element. Expansion comes with moderation, and holding steady still leaves room to move. People born in this period work soundly and with vision, and can settle for smooth sailing.
- Jupiter Opposite Saturn: Jupiter and Saturn face each other across the chart, one end wanting growth and the other wanting to hold what exists. People born in this period often meet the other end in someone else, and learn to use both.
Jupiter and Uranus
- Jupiter Conjunct Uranus: When Jupiter and Uranus meet, the urge to expand runs into the urge to shake things up, and people born in that window tend to get restless the moment a new possibility appears.
- Jupiter Sextile Uranus: With Jupiter and Uranus two signs apart, the drive to grow and the taste for novelty help each other along, and those who take the initiative can often turn a new idea into a real way forward.
- Jupiter Square Uranus: Jupiter and Uranus push against each other here, the wish to expand pulling one way and the urge to break free pulling the other. This whole group shares a restlessness with the status quo and an unusual appetite for risk.
- Jupiter Trine Uranus: With Jupiter and Uranus in signs of the same element, growth and innovation fall naturally into step. This group usually handles change with ease, and tends to treat good luck as nothing out of the ordinary.
- Jupiter Opposite Uranus: Jupiter and Uranus face each other across the sky, one end wanting to grow steadily by its beliefs and the other wanting to tear it all up and start again. This group often meets, in other people, the changes they do not dare make themselves.
Jupiter and Neptune
- Jupiter Conjunct Neptune: When Jupiter and Neptune come together, faith and dreams blur into one. People born in that window tend to be idealistic and soft-hearted, and they easily picture things as rosier than they are.
- Jupiter Sextile Neptune: With Jupiter and Neptune two signs apart, belief and imagination get along well, and those willing to put in some thought can turn a vague longing, step by step, into something doable.
- Jupiter Square Neptune: Jupiter and Neptune snag on each other here, so what you want to believe does not line up with what you actually see. This group is prone to high hopes and letdowns, and learns from them to tell real from false.
- Jupiter Trine Neptune: With Jupiter and Neptune in signs of the same element, confidence and imagination feed each other. This group is big-hearted and inspired, and when life goes smoothly they are also inclined to drift.
- Jupiter Opposite Neptune: Jupiter and Neptune hold opposite ends, one wanting to expand and believe, the other wanting to dissolve and devote itself. Through a partner or a teacher, this group often sees its own ideals and illusions reflected back.
Jupiter and Pluto
- Jupiter Conjunct Pluto: When Jupiter and Pluto come together, the wish to expand joins a will that digs to the root. People born in that window tend to have deep ambition, and once they fix on a goal they do not let go easily.
- Jupiter Sextile Pluto: With Jupiter and Pluto two signs apart, the will to grow and a deep resolve lend each other a hand, and those who commit themselves can build real influence one step at a time.
- Jupiter Square Pluto: Jupiter and Pluto push against each other here, the belief in expansion slamming into the fixation on control. This group easily clashes with power, and builds real strength through one contest after another.
- Jupiter Trine Pluto: With Jupiter and Pluto in signs of the same element, chances to grow and deep strength connect naturally. This group bounces back fast and carries weight in what they do, yet does not always give it everything.
- Jupiter Opposite Pluto: Jupiter and Pluto stand on opposite sides, your own convictions pulling against someone else’s control. In a boss, a partner, or a rival, this group often meets a power they have not yet claimed as their own.

A straight word: read an aspect as part of the whole chart
A single aspect describes the relationship between two planets. A chart has well over a dozen aspects on average, and they reinforce and offset one another. The same aspect in different signs and houses, with a tight orb or a loose one, can look very different in real life. Planetary positions are astronomical facts and can be calculated precisely; what an aspect means is astrological tradition, not scientific law. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment only; for health, investment or legal matters, please consult a professional.

Jupiter aspects FAQ
Which Jupiter aspect is the best?
None of them is best. Trines and sextiles come easily; squares and oppositions bring pressure and also drive; a conjunction depends on which planet Jupiter is joined to. Start with the aspect that has the smallest orb, since that is Jupiter’s most noticeable interaction in your chart.
How do I find out which aspects my Jupiter has?
Cast a birth chart with your birth date, time and place. Our birth chart calculator lists the aspects from the tightest orb to the widest. Jupiter’s aspects can mostly be worked out from the birthday alone.
What does it mean if Jupiter has no aspects?
It means Jupiter forms none of the five major aspects with the other nine planets, which happens in about 4% of charts in our calculations. The traditional reading is that the planet works more on its own: what it stands for is less tied in with the rest of the chart, standing out strongly at some times and seeming disconnected at others.
