Lu Cun in Zi Wei Dou Shu: Steady Income and Holding on to It
Lu Cun (Stored Wealth) is the wealth star of Zi Wei Dou Shu. Its palace is set by the birth-year stem and it stands for steady, slow-and-sure resources: whatever palace it sits in has a solid floor under it. Its style is to keep, not to charge.
What Lu Cun is
Lu Cun and Hua Lu are often mentioned together but they are different things. Lu Cun is an actual star fixed in one palace for life; Hua Lu is a transformation that the birth-year stem gives to some other star. When the two share a palace or face each other, it is called “double Lu”. Qing Yang and Tuo Luo always sit one box on either side of Lu Cun, so wherever there are resources there is also competition and drag: you keep what you guard.
- Values security and thinks before spending
- Steady and patient, good at building things up over time
- Independent and slow to ask others for help
Lu Cun and Tian Ma are minor stars of the same rank as the six auspicious and six Sha stars and are listed with them on a chart; many books discuss them alongside the auspicious stars as “Lu and Ma”.
How Lu Cun is placed
Lu Cun is placed by the birth-year stem: each stem points to one fixed palace, which never changes for life. Qing Yang is always one box forward from Lu Cun and Tuo Luo one box back, so they are listed too. Lu Cun’s palace is simply the “Lu” position of each heavenly stem, the same table as the Lu Shen symbolic star in BaZi: BaZi looks it up from the day stem, Zi Wei from the birth-year stem. Each year also has a yearly Lu Cun, found from that year’s stem with the same table.
| Year stem | Lu Cun in | Qing Yang in | Tuo Luo in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jia | Yin | Mao | Chou |
| Yi | Mao | Chen | Yin |
| Bing | Si | Wu | Chen |
| Ding | Wu | Wei | Si |
| Wu | Si | Wu | Chen |
| Ji | Wu | Wei | Si |
| Geng | Shen | You | Wei |
| Xin | You | Xu | Shen |
| Ren | Hai | Zi | Xu |
| Gui | Zi | Chou | Hai |
The table was worked back from real charts cast by this site’s engine, the same rules as the chart tool. Zi Wei changes years at Chinese New Year, and births after 23:00 count as the Zi hour of the next day. Lu Cun never falls in Chou, Chen, Wei and Xu.
Lu Cun and Tian Ma
Lu Cun and Tian Ma in the same palace is the strictest reading of “Lu and Ma racing together”. Because Lu Cun follows the year stem and Tian Ma the year branch, only 6 of the sixty stem-branch years put them together: Jia-Zi, Geng-Wu, Jia-Shen, Geng-Yin, Jia-Chen and Geng-Xu. In our sample of births from 1960 to 2005 that is about 11.1%. A looser reading counts Lu Cun and Tian Ma both appearing in the Life Palace’s group of four palaces; that happens in about 10.2% of charts.
Anyone with Lu Cun in the Life Palace has that palace flanked by Qing Yang and Tuo Luo, one on each side (every one of our 16,802 charts); the classics call this “Yang and Tuo flanking the Life Palace”. Lu Cun shares a palace with the birth-year Hua Lu (double Lu in one palace) in about 7.3% of charts.

What the data says
How we counted: this site’s engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005 (birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample), 16,802 charts in all. These figures describe how chart structures are distributed; they do not measure anyone’s good or bad fortune.
Myth: Lu Cun in the Life Palace means you will be rich.
Lu Cun stands for stability and keeping, not for the size of a fortune. It often makes people cautious and risk-averse; how fast wealth builds depends on the Wealth and Career palaces and the transformations.
Myth: Qing Yang and Tuo Luo flanking Lu Cun spoil it.
Qing Yang and Tuo Luo sit on either side of Lu Cun in every chart, so the flanking is not a special bad configuration. It is a reminder that resources attract competition; what counts is what you manage to keep.
Advice
Lu Cun’s money is kept by guarding it, but it also needs to move. Secure the basics first, then leave some room for opportunities.
Lu Cun, Tian Ma and four lesser stars
A straight word: Lu and Ma are tendencies, not a bank balance
Lu Cun and Tian Ma show where resources and movement are more likely to turn up. They do not guarantee income, and they do not mean you must move house or go abroad. This site does not read the Health Palace. Everything here is for reference and entertainment and is not investment or financial advice.
