Hong Luan in Zi Wei Dou Shu: Likeability, Romance and Marriage
Hong Luan (the Red Phoenix) is one of the romance stars of Zi Wei Dou Shu. Its palace is set by the birth-year branch and it stands for likeability, charm and marriage: whatever palace it sits in tends to bring warmth and good relations.
What Hong Luan is
Hong Luan and Tian Xi are always in opposite palaces: where one sits, the other faces it, so the two are often named together as “Luan and Xi”. Hong Luan leans towards committed love and marriage, a more “proper” kind of romance than the artistic, mood-driven charm of Tian Yao.

Hong Luan and Tian Xi belong to the lesser stars: they are printed smaller on a chart, after the major and minor stars, but they are often consulted on questions of romance and likeability.
How Hong Luan is placed
Hong Luan is placed by the birth-year branch: start the Zi year at Mao and count backward to your birth-year branch; wherever you stop, that is Hong Luan’s palace. Tian Xi is always in the opposite palace. BaZi’s Hong Luan and Tian Xi are found from the birth-year branch with exactly the same table. For a given year, look up that year’s branch in the same table.

Hong Luan and Tian Xi
Hong Luan and Tian Xi are always in opposite palaces (every one of our 16,802 charts): if Hong Luan is in the Life Palace, Tian Xi is in the Travel Palace, and the other way round. See one and the other is always facing it. In our sample about 16.5% of people have Luan and Xi on the Life–Travel axis, and about 16.6% on the Spouse–Career axis.

How we counted: this site’s engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005 (birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample), 16,802 charts in all. These figures describe how chart structures are distributed; they do not measure anyone’s good or bad fortune.
