Zi Wei Dou Shu: Hua Lu in the 12 palaces
Hua Lu is the "Lu" of the Four Transformations: affinity, ease, benefit and flow. Wherever your birth-year Lu lands, that area of life is where goodwill, opportunity and reward come to you more readily.
What Hua Lu is
Lu is often called the wealth transformation, but it is closer to affinity: with people, with chances, with money. Lu also means flow, and what comes quickly can go quickly, so the palace holding Lu is where things come to you easily, not necessarily where you keep them.
To read Lu, first see which palace it sits in (what comes to you), then the opposite palace (who else benefits), and finally which star carries it: Wu Qu with Lu leans toward hard cash, Tian Tong toward contentment and enjoyment, Lian Zhen toward charm and social skill.
The ten-stem Hua Lu table
Your birth-year Hua Lu is set by the heavenly stem of your birth year. We follow the Four Transformations table of the Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu.
| Year stem | Birth year ends in | Star that takes Lu | The flavor of Lu it brings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jia years | 4 | Lian Zhen | Charm and social skill open doors; romance runs high too. |
| Yi years | 5 | Tian Ji | Ideas and change bring openings. |
| Bing years | 6 | Tian Tong | Harmony and enjoyment: the Lu that feels most like good fortune. |
| Ding years | 7 | Tai Yin | Patience and steady accumulation, with a bond to money and home. |
| Wu years | 8 | Tan Lang | Socializing and talent bring chances, and desires grow with them. |
| Ji years | 9 | Wu Qu | Hard cash and getting things done: the most tangible Lu. |
| Geng years | 0 | Tai Yang | Giving and visibility pay you back. |
| Xin years | 1 | Ju Men | Eloquence and expertise bring openings. |
| Ren years | 2 | Tian Liang | Shelter and care; the old texts warn that gain can stir up disputes. |
| Gui years | 3 | Po Jun | Change and new ventures open a fresh chapter. |
Zi Wei Dou Shu changes year on Lunar New Year’s Day, so if you were born in January or February, check your lunar year first. The year stem follows the last digit of the Western year (1984 and 1994, for example, are Jia years).

How we counted: our engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all. This shows how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about anyone’s fortunes.
Birth-year, decade and annual Hua Lu
This series is about the birth-year Hua Lu, the backdrop for your whole life. Each ten-year decade and each single year also has its own set of Four Transformations, which carry Hua Lu into different palaces at different times. To see the layers for a given year, switch years in our free Zi Wei chart.
Myth: the palace with Lu is always a good one.
Lu is a plus, not a guarantee. The major stars in that palace, their brightness, any difficult stars and how you use it all matter just as much.
Myth: Lu means money.
Lu is closer to affinity and flow. Lu in the Wealth Palace means more earning chances; in other palaces it means ease with people, love, work and so on.
A straight word: Hua Lu is a plus, not a promise
Hua Lu shows where affinity, ease and flow gather in your life. It is a tendency, not a guaranteed outcome. We do not predict marriage, children, parents’ fortunes, wealth or health, and we do not read the Health Palace. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment and is not investment, financial or real estate advice.
