Zi Wei Dou Shu: Hua Ji in the 12 palaces

Hua Ji is the "Ji" of the Four Transformations: care, attachment, gaps and life lessons. Wherever your birth-year Ji lands, that area of life is what you care about most, pour the most into, and most easily get stuck on.

What Hua Ji is

Ji is often called the unlucky transformation; we do not read it that way. Ji is about what you cannot let go: because you care, you invest; because you invest, you worry about gain and loss. For many people, the palace holding Ji is exactly where they develop the most depth and skill.

To read Ji, first see which palace it sits in (what you care about), then the opposite palace (tradition says "Ji clashes with the opposite palace," so matters there get pulled in too), and finally which star carries it: Tai Yang with Ji means giving a lot without being understood, Ju Men means loose talk and misunderstandings, Wu Qu means pressure around money and responsibility.

The ten-stem Hua Ji table

Your birth-year Hua Ji is set by the heavenly stem of your birth year. We follow the Four Transformations table of the Complete Book of Zi Wei Dou Shu.

Jia years4Tai YangYou give a lot and are not always understood.
Yi years5Tai YinA busy mind; feelings tend to turn inward.

Zi Wei Dou Shu changes year on Lunar New Year’s Day, so if you were born in January or February, check your lunar year first. The year stem follows the last digit of the Western year (1984 and 1994, for example, are Jia years).

How we counted: our engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all. This shows how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about anyone’s fortunes.

Birth-year, decade and annual Hua Ji

This series is about the birth-year Hua Ji, the backdrop for your whole life. Each ten-year decade and each single year also has its own set of Four Transformations, which carry Hua Ji into different palaces at different times. To see the layers for a given year, switch years in our free Zi Wei chart.

Myth: something will go wrong in the palace with Ji.

Ji stands for care and attachment, not calamity. We make no predictions of good or bad luck; we only describe the area you hold closest to your heart.

Myth: Ji in the Spouse Palace means a bad marriage.

It means you care deeply about love and invest a lot in it. What it calls for is communication and effort, not worry. We do not predict how a marriage turns out.

Myth: Ji has no upside.

Ji brings focus and persistence; aimed at the right thing, it becomes depth that others cannot match.

A straight word: Ji means care, not doom

Hua Ji marks what you care about most, hold on to hardest and pour the most into, and that is often where you grow the most depth. We do not follow the reading that "Ji means bad luck." We do not predict marriage, children, parents’ fortunes, wealth or health, and we do not read the Health Palace at all. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment; base big decisions on your real circumstances.
