We list the Blade for yang stems only. The yin-stem Blade (for example Yi seeing Yin, or Yi seeing Chen) is disputed among schools, so our lookup leaves it out rather than risk a false reading.
How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all, and checked each star by the formal method on this page.
What the classics say, and a closer modern reading
Traditional view: The classics say the Yang Blade brings strength, a quick temper and a martial edge. Well combined, it marks a military post or a bold general; poorly combined, it warns of bloodshed and injury.
Modern reading: The Blade is drive: quick decisions, nerve, no fear of conflict. It needs to be reined in and channeled. BaZi calls this “the Blade driving the Killings”, using Seven Killings (rules, pressure, discipline) to direct it. As for “bloodshed”, a closer reading is that you get hurt more easily when you act on impulse, so take extra care when driving, playing sports or handling knives.

“Bloodshed” is the classics exaggerating. The Blade is drive and nerve; the practical reminder is to stay safe when you are worked up, and to cool down before big decisions.
A woman with the Yang Blade harms her husband.
This folk saying is deeply unfair to women. The Blade stands for a strong will and a mind of one’s own, which today is often an advantage at work.

Symbolic stars are labels the ancients pinned onto a chart, some auspicious and some ominous, but what really decides a chart is the strength of the Five Elements and how the Ten Gods combine. A helper star on an unfavorable element loses value; an ominous star on a favorable element can become an asset. Whatever stars you find, treat them as a reminder or a small bonus. How do I find the Yang Blade?
From a yang Day Master: Jia sees Mao, Bing sees Wu, Wu sees Wu, Geng sees You, Ren sees Zi. Schools disagree about the yin stems, so we leave them out.
Is the Yang Blade always bad?
No. It is strength and nerve; driven by Seven Killings it is a setup that gets things done. What needs watching is impulsiveness.
