The Lonely Star sits one step after the seasonal group, the Widow Star one step before it. Hai-Zi-Chou is the North: the Lonely Star is the next branch, Yin, and the Widow Star the one before, Xu. Only the year branch is used.
How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all, and checked each star by the formal method on this page.
