2027 Flying Star Chart: the year 9 Purple enters the centre

The 2027 Ding Wei annual chart puts 9 Purple You Bi in the centre, flying forward through the nine palaces. 5 Yellow goes to the North, 2 Black to the West and 8 White to the Southeast. How the annual star is actually derived

This section gives the derivation, because most published annual charts give the result and not the method, which leaves you no way to check them. There are two steps.

Step one: find the star that enters the centre. In the upper-era jia zi year of 1864, 1 White entered the centre, and from then on the star steps back one place each year on a nine-year cycle. So 2024 was 3 Jade, 2025 was 2 Black, 2026 was 1 White and 2027 is 9 Purple. As a formula: take the year modulo nine, subtract from eleven, and fold the result back into the range one to nine. The same formula holds across all three eras, because a nine-year cycle and a hundred-and-eighty-year era are exact multiples.

Step two: fly forward through the nine palaces. The centre star sits on Luo Shu 5 and the others follow the Luo Shu numbers in order: Centre → Qian (Northwest) → Dui (West) → Gen (Northeast) → Li (South) → Kan (North) → Kun (Southwest) → Zhen (East) → Xun (Southeast), the number rising by one each step and wrapping from nine back to one. For 2027 that gives Centre 9 Purple, Northwest 1 White, West 2 Black, Northeast 3 Jade, South 4 Green, North 5 Yellow, Southwest 6 White, East 7 Red, Southeast 8 White.

Two things to flag. First, the annual chart changes at Li Chun — not at 1 January and not at Chinese New Year: the 2027 chart runs from 2027-02-04 to 2028-02-04. Second, annual stars always fly forward; backward flight belongs to the mountain and facing stars of a full natal chart, not to this layer.

What 9 Purple in the centre means

We are in Period 9 of the Lower Era (2024–2043), and its ruling star is 9 Purple, Fire. In 2027 that ruling star returns to the middle of the nine palaces — something that happens twice in a twenty-year period.

But entering the centre is not the same as peaking. The centre palace is Earth and 9 Purple is Fire; Fire feeding Earth is a drain. Our engine labels that relationship star drains into palace, star drained. In plain language: the ruling energy is not shining outward this year, it is sinking into structure. Institutions, foundations and things already built benefit; anything that lives on volume and exposure will find the year heavy going.

5 Yellow in the North

The 5 Yellow is Earth and is treated in Xuan Kong as the star to watch most carefully. This year it flies into the Kan palace in the North (Water), forming star controls palace with the star drained. Schools contradict each other on whether that sector can be dug up or needs a cure, so we give no recipe; what we can offer is on the North sector page, and it is the part that needs nobody's endorsement.

2 Black in the West

The 2 Black is Earth and governs illness. This year it flies into the Dui palace in the West (Metal), forming star drains into palace with the star drained; within Period 9 it stands as Advancing — the 2 Black ruled Period 2, so late in Period 9 it is in the "on its way" group. That layer is usually skipped: unfavourable stars have a period standing too.

8 White in the Southeast

The 8 White is Earth, one of the auspicious whites, and governs wealth and property. It ruled the previous twenty years (Period 8, 2004–2023), so within Period 9 it stands as Receding — recently out of office, still carrying force but no longer ruling. This year it flies into the Xun palace in the Southeast (Wood), forming palace controls star.

Flying stars and San Yuan Jiu Yun

They are two scales of the same system. San Yuan Jiu Yun divides time — twenty years to a period, a hundred and eighty to a cycle. Annual flying stars place the nine stars in space for a given year. The period decides which star rules (currently 9 Purple); the annual chart decides where each star sits this year.

That is why every flying-star page here carries a period standing — ruling, growing, advancing, receding, dead or hostile. Talking about a star's luck without its period is incomplete: the 8 White was the ruling wealth star in Period 8 and is receding in Period 9; 9 Purple was the coming star in Period 8 and only rules now.
