Tian Ji alone (opposite Ju Men) in Zi Wei
Tian Ji (the Strategist) is exalted in Zi and Wu, the position where this star of intelligence is most powerful, and across from it sits a strong Ju Men (the Great Gate). Tian Ji governs thinking, planning and change: a quick mind that is good at finding the crux of a matter. Ju Men is the dark star, governing eloquence and research, and also doubt. With one star inside and one outside, these people can both think and speak, want to ask why about every claim, and don't accept conclusions without grounds. The stars have the same brightness in Zi and Wu, so there is little difference between the branches.
Tian Tong + Tian Liang in the Wealth Palace and Tai Yin in the Career Palace complete what the old texts call the Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang pattern. The old texts say “Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang makes a clerk,” meaning it suits roles inside an organization such as staff adviser, civil servant or technical specialist, making a living by brainpower and systems, with fewer dramatic rises and falls. Ju Men in the Travel Palace also warns that these people can stir up disputes outside by speaking too bluntly; learning when to speak is a lifelong lesson.

In INTP terms, the dominant function of Tian Ji opposite Ju Men is Introverted Thinking (Ti): every claim has to be taken apart in their head and checked for consistency before they accept it. The auxiliary, Extraverted Intuition (Ne), lets them jump from one question to ten related ones, which is exactly where exalted Tian Ji's agility lands.
The distinctive feature here is Ju Men opposite. A typical INTP keeps questions in their head; people with this combination often voice their doubts, and ask very pointed questions, which is Ju Men's eloquence and research drive at work. Add the Ji-Yue-Tong-Liang triangle, and they adapt to organizations better than the stereotypical INTP, willing to be the one inside the system who thinks things through and finds the holes.

- Ju Men is the dark star, and shining from the Travel Palace, Zi Wei specifically warns that these people easily offend others with their words when out. MBTI says the INTP isn't socially adept; Zi Wei names the setting: trouble mostly happens outside, not at home.
- Where Hua Ji lands shifts the focus
- In a Ding year Ju Men takes Hua Ji, and landing in the Travel Palace it clearly raises outside disputes; in a Wu year Tian Ji takes Hua Ji and turns thinking into going around in circles. These birth-year changes have no way to be expressed in MBTI.

Ju Men opposite also suits them to fields that require expression and argument, such as teaching and law.
Why is Tian Ji opposite Ju Men an INTP rather than an INTJ?
Tian Ji pulls toward P on the J/P axis and Tian Tong in the Wealth Palace is also easygoing, totaling -1. An INTJ needs a stable J, but the old texts describe this combination mainly as changeable and full of schemes, so the site places it at INTP. If Tai Yin in the Career Palace and Tian Liang in the Wealth Palace are strengthened in an individual chart, the person may read closer to INTJ.
