Sun Conjunct Venus: What You Love Is Who You Are
With Venus beside the Sun, your sense of self is bound up with the people and things you love. You are warm and attractive, and you care a great deal about whether you are liked. This page starts from what the Sun governs (self, vitality and who you want to become) and what Venus governs (love, taste, values and money), then looks at how the conjunction makes the two interact, how it tends to show up in everyday life, its strengths and blind spots, and some advice for it.

The core meaning of Sun Conjunct Venus
The Sun is your will and your sense of identity; Venus governs taste, aesthetics, affection, and what you consider valuable. Venus orbits inside Earth’s orbit, and seen from here it never gets even two signs away from the Sun, so the only major aspect between them is the conjunction. For people who have it, the self is expressed through “what I like.” The way you dress, your taste, the friends you keep, and your attention to beauty and comfort are all ways you come to know yourself and let others know you.
This aspect gives a likable quality. Without your trying to impress anyone, people tend to find you easy to approach. Its other side is that being liked matters to you, enough that it sometimes sways your decisions. When the two bodies are extremely close, traditional astrology calls Venus “combust,” meaning it is covered by the Sun’s light, and in love you may be more inclined to center on your own feelings. That is only a caution. In reality, many popular and artistically gifted people have a very tight Sun–Venus conjunction.
How it feels inside
You need to feel lovable and accepted before you can feel settled. When your surroundings are harmonious, the things around you are pleasing to look at, and all is well with the people who matter, you open up completely. When the mood turns stiff, or you sense that someone does not like you, your spirits can sink for a long time. Your opinion of yourself often rises and falls with other people’s reactions. Working out which preferences are truly yours and which exist only to please others is a lesson this aspect keeps useful for a lifetime.
In love and relationships
Love and friendship are where you feel most at home. You know how to put people at ease, remember what a friend likes to eat, pay attention to your date’s mood, and enjoy showing affection. Romance is closely tied to your self-worth: when you are loved you glow, and when a relationship hits trouble you tend to doubt yourself. The thing to watch is holding back the truth to keep the peace. Once or twice does no harm, but over time your partner stops knowing what you really want. An occasional “I would actually prefer this” puts things on firmer ground.
At work and in getting things done
At work you suit fields that involve people and aesthetics, such as design, public relations, hospitality, sales, the arts, or any position where being well liked matters. You have a way of improving the mood of a collaboration, and clients and colleagues are happy to make things easy for you. Your motivation tends to come from liking what you do, and it is hard to commit to work that leaves you cold. Another thing to be careful about is feeling too awkward to refuse, saying yes too often, and then being unable to finish. Learning to say no politely and clearly will do your career a lot of good.
Strengths
- Naturally well liked: You are warm and know how to make people comfortable, so you draw close to others without effort, and even among strangers you soon find someone glad to help.
- Clear taste: You know what you like and have the eye to show it. Your clothes, your space, and your work all carry a personal style that people recognize at a glance.
- Generous with warmth: Showing affection and giving compliments comes naturally to you, and a single remark from you often leaves the people around you feeling seen and treasured.
Blind spots
- Too concerned with being liked: Other people’s opinions easily sway your mood and your choices, and to avoid disappointing anyone you sometimes set aside the direction you truly want to take.
- Too awkward to say no: Afraid of spoiling the mood, you agree to things you do not want to do. The resentment builds up, and the other person never learns that you were unwilling.
- Fond of comfort: You like things pleasant and easy, so matters that demand hardship or conflict tend to get postponed, and you miss the moment when you should have stood firm.
Advice for Sun Conjunct Venus
Practice separating “I like it” from “people like me.” Every so often, list a few things that simply make you happy and set aside time for them whether or not anyone admires them. When an invitation comes that you want to accept but feel a bit reluctant about, say “let me think about it and get back to you,” and give yourself a night. Your charm is real, and it will not vanish because you sometimes say no.
What to keep in mind when reading this aspect
1. The tighter the orb, the more it matters. In our calculations, only 13.6% of all major aspects are within 1° of exact, and 41.2% are within 3°. If your Sun conjunct Venus is tight, the traits on this page will be more noticeable; if it is close to the 10° limit, they will be much fainter.
2. Applying and separating. An aspect is applying when the two planets are moving toward the exact angle and separating once they have passed it. Tradition holds that an applying aspect is still taking shape and acts more strongly. Our chart calculator marks which one you have.
3. Watch for out-of-sign aspects. Two planets in conjunction are usually in the same sign, but an aspect is measured by actual distance. In our calculations, 15.6% of conjunctions do not match the usual sign relationship (one planet late in a sign, the other early in another). The nature of the aspect is still there; it just shows up in a less typical way.
4. Most people born on the same day share this aspect. The Sun and Venus move only a little in a day. The difference lies in which houses they fall in on your chart, and that depends on your birth time; see Planets in the Houses.
5. Then look at each planet’s own placement. The signs the Sun and Venus are in decide how each one expresses itself; see Planets in the Signs. If either planet has other aspects, read them together. For a complete reading, use the In-Depth Chart Reading.

A straight word: read an aspect as part of the whole chart
A single aspect describes the relationship between two planets. A chart has well over a dozen aspects on average, and they reinforce and offset one another. The same aspect in different signs and houses, with a tight orb or a loose one, can look very different in real life. Planetary positions are astronomical facts and can be calculated precisely; what an aspect means is astrological tradition, not scientific law. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment only; for health, investment or legal matters, please consult a professional.

Sun Conjunct Venus FAQ
Are people with Sun conjunct Venus always good-looking?
This aspect has no direct connection to physical features. What it brings is a likable quality: a warm manner, care put into style and appearance, and a way of being with people that helps them relax, so it often leaves an impression of attractiveness. Real appeal comes from that overall feeling. Facial features are still a matter of heredity, which a birth chart cannot account for.
Does a combust Venus conjunct the Sun make love harder?
Combust is a term from traditional astrology for a Venus so close to the Sun that its light is drowned out. The ancients believed such a Venus had a harder time acting on its own, and that the person might put themselves at the center in love. It describes a tendency worth watching and has no fixed link to whether your love life goes well. If you ask about your partner’s feelings and really listen, the charm of this conjunction works just fine.
How do I know whether I have Sun conjunct Venus in my chart?
Cast a birth chart with your birth date and look for “Sun conjunction Venus” in the aspect list. Our birth chart calculator lists the major aspects between the ten planets from the tightest orb to the widest. In our calculations, about 15.4% of charts for people born 1960–2005 have it.
What orb is used for Sun conjunct Venus?
Astrologers differ; orbs of 5° to 10° are common. On this site the orb for a conjunction is 8°, widened to 10° when the Sun or Moon is involved, which means it counts with the two planets within 10° of each other. The smaller the orb, the more clearly the aspect acts.
