What ENFP is like
The four letters of ENFP are Extraversion (E), Intuition (N), Feeling (F) and Perceiving (P): they enjoy dealing with people, their mind keeps producing possibilities, their decisions follow values and feelings, and in daily life they prefer to adapt as they go. The function stack is Ne→Fi→Te→Si. Dominant Extraverted Intuition (Ne) lets them see possibilities in people and situations that haven't happened yet. Auxiliary Introverted Feeling (Fi) is a private measuring stick: what is worth doing and who is worth trusting are clear answers in their heart, even if they don't always say them aloud. Tertiary Extraverted Thinking (Te) wakes up when they truly care, pushing them to deliver results. Last comes Introverted Sensing (Si), which handles routine and detail and is the part they most easily neglect.
For example: Ming spends a weekend at a craft market selling handmade bookmarks and chats all afternoon with the stallholder next door, who sells pour-over coffee. By packing-up time they have agreed to co-host a "coffee and notebook-binding" workshop next month. The sign-up form is ready that same night. As for when the venue deposit is due, he only remembers once a friend reminds him.
Common strengths
- Lighting up the people around them ENFPs are genuinely interested in people and can often name strengths the other person hadn't noticed in themselves. People who talk with them tend to leave with more confidence than they came with.
- Loyal to what they believe in Introverted Feeling makes them hold firmly to their values. Once they decide something is meaningful, they'll commit to it for the long haul, even if the pay is low and others are doubtful.
- At home in new surroundings A new job, a new city, an unfamiliar assignment: for many people that is stress, for an ENFP it's like opening a new map. Their adaptability and curiosity help them find their place quickly.
Common blind spots
- Opening too many doors at once Every opportunity is appealing and they find it hard to say no. The calendar fills up and everything is only half done, while the thing they really wanted to do gets pushed to the end.
- Detail and routine slip Payment deadlines, expense receipts, replying to emails on schedule: the things Introverted Sensing looks after are often forgotten while they're absorbed in a new project, and cleaning up afterwards takes more effort.
- Hiding feelings beneath enthusiasm They are cheerful in company, but when they're truly hurt or disappointed they tend to process it alone. Others rarely notice, and only when they suddenly pull away does everyone realise they had been unhappy for a while.
The Zi Wei star groups closest to ENFP
On this site ENFP corresponds to just one star system: Lian Zhen + Tan Lang, which appears only in Si and Hai, and both stars are fallen in those two palaces. Lian Zhen (the Upright One) is the secondary romance star, valuing sociability and feeling; Tan Lang (the Wolf of Desire) is the primary romance star, multi-talented, full of desires and widely connected. Both are outgoing stars that lean toward change, so this combination scores 3.5 on Extraversion and -1.75 on the P axis, with E and P both clear, and 1.13 on Intuition.
To be honest about the T/F axis: the raw score actually leans T (0.5). Lian Zhen and Tan Lang in the Life Palace both lean slightly toward Feeling, totalling -1, but Zi Wei + Po Jun in the Wealth Palace and Wu Qu + Qi Sha in the Career Palace lean Thinking and pull the score over. So that each of the sixteen types has a match, this site assigns it F; which way an individual chart leans depends on the Mind Palace and Body Palace. ENFP makes up 1.7% of the sample charts, on the low side. In the old texts the stars that lean Feeling, such as Tian Tong, Tai Yin, Tian Fu and Tian Xiang, mostly also lean Introverted or J, while the outgoing, P-leaning Tan Lang and Po Jun lean somewhat T, so assembling E, N, F and P is hard to begin with. How we counted: our engine cast one Zi Wei chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample and sexes alternating, 16,802 charts in all; each chart includes the palace and pattern layers. This is how the classical descriptions spread across the four axes, not the MBTI distribution of real people.

- The old texts class both Lian Zhen and Tan Lang as romance stars, valued for popularity and sociability. ENFPs use Extraverted Intuition to find sparks among people and are full of interest in new friends and new topics. Both describe someone who can strike up a conversation anywhere.

- The classics say Tan Lang is restless, loves enjoyment and wants to try everything, and Lian Zhen also carries passion. ENFPs chase several lines of interest at once and prefer experience over settling for the status quo, which fits the 'many' of this pair well.

- Zi Wei reads T/F in finer detail
- MBTI says ENFP is F. In Zi Wei, the Lian Zhen + Tan Lang Life Palace leans F, but the Wealth and Career Palaces lean T. In other words, these people follow their feelings in love and friendship yet are quite practical about money and work, and both faces are on the same chart.
- A caution from two fallen stars
- Lian Zhen + Tan Lang is fallen in both Si and Hai, and the old texts' verdicts on it mostly come with a caution: many desires make for distraction, and wide connections make one easily swayed by obligations to others. MBTI's ENFP description leans positive; Zi Wei writes the risks in too.
- Only one system, but many kinds of ENFP
- In MBTI, ENFP is a common type; at Zi Wei's star-system level it matches only one combination. For people with other Life Palaces to be pushed to ENFP, it takes the Mind Palace, Body Palace or patterns, which gives Zi Wei more possible explanations for 'why you are an ENFP'.

This site maps it to one combination only: Lian Zhen + Tan Lang, with the Life Palace in Si or Hai. Two romance stars share the palace, and both the outgoing and the change-seeking tendencies are strong. However, this combination's raw T/F score actually leans T; it is assigned F only so that all sixteen types have a match. Please keep that caveat in mind when citing it.
I'm an ENFP but my Life Palace isn't Lian Zhen + Tan Lang. Does that mean it doesn't fit?
That's perfectly normal. The star-system level looks only at the Life Palace and its triangle and opposite palace, and ENFP matches just one combination at that level. An actual individual chart also layers on the Mind Palace, Body Palace and patterns, and it is quite common for people with other Life Palaces to be pushed to ENFP; the 1.7% in the sample charts includes those charts.
