Every Life Path number from 1 to 9 covers about 11.1% of birthdays. The reason is arithmetic: reducing a digit sum to one digit is the same as taking the birth date written as an eight-digit number (for example 19900710) modulo 9, with a remainder of 0 counting as 9. As the dates move forward one day at a time, that remainder simply cycles through 1 to 9. Some people with Life Path 2 pass through 11 while adding up; they are said to carry a Master Number (see Master Numbers).
How you get to 2
Take July 10, 1990: 1+9+9+0+0+7+1+0 = 27 (the compound number), 27 → 9, so the Life Path number is 9. The Life Path number is always reduced to a single digit; the two-digit total along the way (27 here) is the compound number, which Western books often write as 27/9 and which Taiwanese teachers call the "talent number" (天賦數). Some readers look at it as well.
