Master Numbers in Numerology: 11, 22 and 33
In numerology the repeated digits 11, 22 and 33 are called Master Numbers, said to carry a doubled energy and a doubled lesson. If you carry one, your Life Path number is still 2, 4 or 6; the Master Number adds a layer of meaning on top.

Master Numbers are not rare. With our method, about 10.3% of birthdays pass through 11 and about 6.4% through 33. For anyone born in the 1900s, the 1 and 9 of the year already add up to 10, so digit sums very often land on 29 (→ 11) or 33.
Two methods, sometimes two answers
There are two common ways to add up a birth date. The one most used in Taiwan, and on this site, adds every digit at once. The other, which many American numerology books and websites teach, first reduces the month, the day and the year separately (keeping 11 and 22 intact) and then adds the three. The final Life Path digit always comes out the same; only whether a Master Number shows up along the way can differ. By our count, the two methods disagree about whether a Master Number is present on about 13.6% of birthdays. So "am I really an 11?" is often a question of method, and the calculator shows you both.

Two common misconceptions
People with a Master Number are more special or more gifted.
A Master Number is just a figure that turns up while adding, and it is far from rare (about 10.3% pass through 11). Numerology says it brings a bigger lesson, not that its owner is better.
Your Life Path number is 11, not 2.
Teachers differ. This site reduces the Life Path number to one digit (11 → 2, 22 → 4, 33 → 6) and marks the Master Number separately; many Western numerologists write it as 11/2 or simply call it an 11. Both describe the same thing.
A straight word: numerology is a number game, not BaZi
Life Path numerology is a popular form of Western number mysticism: it only adds up the digits of your birthday, and it has nothing to do with BaZi, which works with stems, branches and the five elements. Its distribution is simple arithmetic: across every day from 1960 to 2005, Life Path numbers 1 to 9 each come out at exactly 11.1%. That is how addition works, not a plan for your life.
