"You are in a Wealth luck pillar right now." "The next one is an Officer pillar." These phrases mean that the stem and branch of that luck pillar are a particular Ten God to your Day Master. The Ten God sets the theme of the ten years; whether that theme is a tailwind or a headwind for you depends on whether your Day Master is strong or weak.

The same kind of pillar can feel completely opposite to a strong and a weak Day Master. In a Wealth pillar, for example, a strong Day Master can earn money and keep it, while a weak one may see opportunity after opportunity and be unable to hold on to any of them. When the stem and branch are different Ten Gods
A luck pillar's stem and branch are often different Ten Gods, for example "Direct Resource on the stem, Hurting Officer in the branch." There are two ways to read this:
- By halves: classical texts say "the first five years follow the stem, the last five follow the branch," so the first five years lean toward the stem's theme and the last five toward the branch's.
- Together: both themes run through the whole decade; the stem is more visible and easier to see, while the branch runs deeper, the root underneath.
Our lookup lists both, and the grade reads stem and branch together. Across all luck pillars in our sample, "mixed," with one favorable and one unfavorable, is the most common case at 42.4%.
How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005 (birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample) and read each once as a man and once as a woman, 33,604 people in all, looking at the first eight luck pillars only. This describes how chart structures are distributed; it says nothing about anyone's fortune.

A chart describes tendencies, not events that must happen, and everything on this site is for reference and entertainment.
