Life Stages in Luck Pillars: Where the Day Master's Qi Is in Each Decade
A luck pillar lasts ten years, and each one brings a new branch. Whether that branch is Birth, Peak or Tomb for the Day Master describes whether your own qi is rising or falling over the decade. It gives a useful sense of rhythm, but it is not a verdict on good or bad years.

How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample, 16,802 charts in all. Life stages use the standard "yang forward, yin backward" method; strength uses this site's hidden-stem root scoring.
Luck pillar branches run forward or backward one step at a time, so eight luck pillars pass through roughly two-thirds of the twelve stages. Most people will live through a Peak decade, when their qi is fullest, and a Tomb decade, when it draws in. What differs is where in life they fall, and whether that decade's stem and branch are favorable to you.
Eight luck pillars in one chart: which stages Geng Metal passes through

This chart is already strong, so more qi on top is usually read as plenty of drive with a risk of overdoing it; what matters is whether that decade gives the surplus an outlet. Read it together with your favorable elements
- If your favorable elements are Peers and Resource (a weak chart): the decades where the Day Master is well placed usually carry Peer or Resource branches. Fuller qi and favorable elements point the same way.
- If your favorable elements are Output, Wealth and Officer (a strong chart): a Peak decade makes the qi fuller still but is unfavorable, often read as "lots of drive, easy to overdo."

A straight word: the life stages describe, they do not pass judgment
Words like "Death," "Tomb" and "Extinction" sound alarming, but they are only borrowed from the arc of a human life to describe how an element's qi rises and falls over the twelve months. They help you see whether the Day Master is just sprouting or in its prime at a given branch. How strong a person is, and how a period goes, depends on the whole chart and on luck pillars and years; one word cannot settle it. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment.
