Is Your BaZi Suited to Owning Property? The Vault, Resource and Wealth Together

When people ask about property in their chart, they usually just ask “do I have a wealth vault?” The vault is only one piece. We split home ownership into three questions: can you keep it (the vault), do you have help (Resource), and can you carry it (Wealth and strength). Only together do they say how you should buy. For what a vault is, see the wealth vault; this page only covers what it means for property.

Three pieces of the puzzle

What we look atWhat it meansShare of charts
Wealth vaultThe storage branch of your Wealth element is in your pillars: you tend to save and keep33.5% have one
Resource favorableThe classics’ house, documents and contracts; also family, institutions, security70.4%
Wealth favorableLarge sums are easier to manage, and money that comes in tends to stay31.8%

Wealth controls Resource in the five-element cycle, so the two are rarely favorable together, only 2.1% of the time. Most people either lean on Wealth or lean on Resource. Favorable Wealth suits taking charge yourself, buying through income and investment; favorable Resource suits a steady job, family support and long-term planning.

Five property profiles

ProfileHow it is judgedThe way of buying that suits it
The keeperWealth vault, favorable Wealth, strong Day MasterTake charge of the plan and buy once you have saved enough; a favorable year that opens your vault is a good moment
Resource-backedWealth is not favorable, but Resource isLean on family, institutions and contracts: first-home schemes, long loans, family help; steady, not fast
Wealth-heavy, weakHeavy Wealth with a weak Day Master (about 13.2%)Plenty of money and opportunity, but hard to hold; keep the loan-to-income ratio conservative and do not buy beyond your means
Peers taking WealthMany Peers (Friend, Rob Wealth) and little Wealth (about 13.1%)Take care with joint purchases, shared ownership or buying in someone else’s name; write down ownership and contributions
Light WealthWealth carries little weight in the chartOwning property need not be a life goal; when you buy, buy for living in

These are tendencies, not fate. A wealth-heavy, weak chart can still buy, as long as the loan stays within bounds; someone with many Peers can still buy with others, as long as ownership is written down. Both are covered in before you buy.

Ming can take charge and buy once he has saved enough. Qing is better served by family help, a steady job and institutions, planning over the long term. Zhe has two vaults, but Wealth is unfavorable to him, so his main task is not to let a mortgage crush him. Their timing is in home-buying timing.

Why Resource has to do with homes

The classics call Resource the house: it is the element that produces you, like a parent or a shelter, and it also stands for documents, certificates and contracts. A home is both a shelter and a deed, so traditional readings look to Resource for property. When Resource is favorable, buying often involves parents’ help or an employer or government scheme (a subsidized loan, for instance); when Resource is unfavorable, you depend more on your own planning and should watch out for being tied down by contract terms.

A straight word: buying a home is about your finances

Whether you can and should buy comes down to your deposit, income, interest rates, prices and how long you plan to stay. What BaZi can do is point out whether your chart tends to hold on to money, whether you can carry a large loan comfortably, and which years bring more support, as one more thing to weigh. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment and is no substitute for financial, mortgage or legal advice.

Property profile FAQ

Why does Resource relate to homes?

The classics call Resource the house: it produces you, like a shelter, and also stands for documents and contracts. A home is both shelter and deed, so traditional readings look to Resource for property and for help from family and institutions.

Should someone with a wealth-heavy, weak chart avoid buying?

No, just buy more conservatively. About 13.2% of charts are like this: plenty of money and opportunity, hard to hold. Keep the mortgage modest and avoid buying beyond your means, and the usual pressure is avoided.

What if neither Wealth nor Resource is favorable?

That is very rare. Most people have one or the other favorable; if neither is, treat buying as practical, for living in, and not as a life goal.
