Output Generating Wealth: Turning Talent into Income
The Eating God and the Hurting Officer are output: work, craft, ideas and service. Wealth is the harvest. When both show on the stems, output flows straight into the harvest. It is the most typical "earn it with your own skills" structure, and the most common of the seven combinations.

How we counted: our engine cast one chart for every day from 1960 to 2005, with the birth hour drawn by a fixed-seed random sample and male and female charts alternating, 16,802 charts in all. "Both showing" means both sides appear among the year, month and hour stems; condition rates are out of the charts where both show.

This is the most common combination (both show in 19.1% of charts), yet only 15.2% meet every condition. The usual sticking point is "Wealth is favorable," which holds in only 23.1% of charts where both show. When Wealth is not favorable, earning money is not the problem; the chase for it simply costs you more.
A Day Master that can carry it, with favorable Wealth

- How to read it: Ren Water feeds Jia Wood, so talent flows into Wealth, and there is no Geng or Xin Metal (Peers) on the stems to take a share. The usual picture is earning through expertise or one's own work, with more coming back the more one does.
What spoils it
- Peers taking the Wealth: with a Peer stem, the Wealth gets split, often read as sharing profits with partners or friends borrowing money; see Peers robbing Wealth.
- A weak Day Master: plenty of ideas and opportunities, but not enough energy or resources to follow through; see too much Wealth for a weak Day Master.

A straight word: a combination describes tension, not fate
The classics say a great many flat, final things about Ten God combinations: "Hurting Officer meets the Officer, a hundred troubles follow," or "the Owl steals the food, poverty and early death." Those lines were written in a very different age, and they often ignore the strength and favorable elements of the whole chart. We treat a combination as a description: which two forces in you pull against each other, and how they can be made to work together. Everything on this site is for reference and entertainment.
