In 2027 the Dog destructs Tai Sui as well as punishing it — Xu and Wei are a pair on the six-destruction table. Destruction is the most frequently skipped of the six branch relationships: it holds a place in the classical formula "punishment, clash, destruction, harm, combination, meeting", yet almost nobody explains it.

What the relationship actually is

A destruction feels different from both a clash and a punishment. A clash knocks something open; a punishment ties it up; a destruction dismantles it — the support that was holding an arrangement together gets pulled out, so the whole thing has to be rebuilt. It does not necessarily come with conflict. Very often it is peaceful: a contract expires, a policy is rewritten, a role changes, a long-standing understanding simply stops applying.

Xu and Wei are both Earth, and both dry: Xu hides Wu Earth, Xin Metal and Ding Fire; Wei hides Ji Earth, Ding Fire and Yi Wood. What they share is Ding Fire — and the 2027 year stem is also Ding. The same character appearing in the stem and in both branches concentrates the fire on this line and makes the dismantling more conspicuous.

For a Dog this is a year where punishment and destruction are live at the same time: one side tangles you up, the other pulls things apart. The two forces point in opposite directions — the punishment wants you to stay in the standoff and keep spending, the destruction wants you to break it up and rebuild. Offending Tai Sui is not a sentence

The phrase carries a lot of weight in popular usage, but the mechanism underneath is plain branch relationships: your year branch and the year's branch form a clash, punishment, harm, destruction — or they are the same branch. These describe where force is applied and in which direction. They are not verdicts.

A clash means displacement: moving house, changing job, changing city, a relationship changing state. For someone who has been stuck, that is the solution, not the problem. A punishment means entanglement, a harm means attrition from somewhere you cannot see, a destruction means an existing arrangement losing its support. Each has a version where it works in your favour.
