What Is the Si–Shen Break?
The Si–Shen Break is the most eventful of the six breaks — because the same pair Si-Shen is both a combination and a break, and the moment a Yin joins, it falls into the Yin-Si-Shen Punishment. So Si-Shen is usually not only a break, but the full script of “combine, break, and maybe punish.”

1. A Break is lightest — but Si-Shen is not only a break
A Break is the lightest relation; but Si-Shen is special — the same pair holds several relations at once, and then the story thickens. Read “Si-Shen break” alone and it means little; you must read it together with its combination and punishment.
2. The three identities of Si-Shen
Si-Shen combine (a six-Branch combination): attraction, alliance, hitting it off at once; Si-Shen break: a crack of rupture; add a Yin: it completes the Yin-Si-Shen Punishment, a falling-out. 3. Which pillar? When triggered?
Whichever pillar it falls in, it touches that bond; a Luck Pillar or year bringing Si or Shen stirs the combine-and-break, and if a Yin also comes, the Yin-Si-Shen Punishment completes and the wound is heaviest.
4. How to read a Si-Shen break
Si-Shen must be read together with its combination and punishment — it is the miniature of a “good then bad, possibly falling-out” relationship. In practice, put such partnerships in writing and leave a margin; don’t be swept off your feet by “hitting it off at once.”
5. A story from within a chart
Two people, Si and Shen facing each other, hit it off at once (Si-Shen combine), and the first year or two went well; but Si-Shen also hides a break, and at the point of splitting power and money the crack surfaced — small disagreements, dug-in positions, and finally a parting. Had a Yin also sat in their charts, forming the Yin-Si-Shen Punishment, even an amicable parting might be beyond them.
